Specialized Rehabilitation Therapies Following Breast Cancer

At the Breast Cancer Clinic, we offer comprehensive physical therapy support at every stage of the treatment journey. From preoperative evaluation to rehabilitation and relapse prevention.

Services provided:

1. Preoperative Evaluation

The preoperative physical therapy evaluation is an important step prior to surgical treatment of breast cancer. Through a comprehensive assessment of mobility, muscle strength, functionality, and the condition of the lymphatic system, a personalized baseline is established for postoperative rehabilitation.

Early assessment helps better prepare the patient, prevent potential complications such as shoulder stiffness and lymphedema, and facilitate a faster and safer return to daily activities. At our clinic, every patient receives personalized information and guidance so that she knows what to expect before and after surgery, gaining confidence and taking an active role in her recovery.

Medical History

  • Diagnosis and Disease Stage
  • Type of Planned Surgery (lumpectomy, mastectomy, etc.)
  • Planned lymph node dissection or sentinel lymph node biopsy
  • Previous surgeries or injuries to the shoulder
  • Comorbidities
  • Dominant upper limb
  • Level of physical activity

2. Postoperative Treatment

Postoperative physical therapy following breast cancer surgery is a key part of rehabilitation, aimed at a safe return to daily activities and improving quality of life. After surgery, you may experience pain, limited shoulder mobility, stiffness, a feeling of tightness in the chest or armpit area, as well as lymphatic system disorders. Early physical therapy helps reduce symptoms, restore function, and prevent or treat complications such as lymphedema.

3. Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) (Breast Cancer)

Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) is a specialized therapeutic technique performed by a certified physical therapist. Using gentle, specially designed techniques, it supports the normal functioning of the lymphatic system, helping to reduce swelling, relieve feelings of heaviness and tension, and improve tissue healing when medically indicated.

At our clinic, we design a personalized rehabilitation program, which may include therapeutic exercise, restoration of range of motion, scar mobilization, Manual Lymph Drainage (MLD), education on lymphedema prevention, and guidance for a safe return to daily and occupational activities. At the same time, the need for a compression chest garment is assessed. Our goal is comprehensive rehabilitation, conducted safely, based on scientific evidence, and with respect for each patient’s needs.
